SMART SEATS FOR UNIVERSITY LIFE

Benzini has created a range of outdoor seats for Griffith University, custom designed for students interconnected with their technology. CBD Landscapes commissioned Benzini to create the seats according to design proposed by Cox Rayner Architects and Planners.

The university is currently transforming its campus into a vibrant hub of world class teaching and research facilities, creating a space for the whole Gold Coast community to enjoy. As the area around the university develops, the edges of the campus will be malleable, blending educational, commercial, recreational and cultural facilities into one.

Benzini created fibreglass moulds of different straight and curved outdoor seats. The concrete was poured over 50 sections for easy transportation and versatile installation, in order to suit the traffic flows of Griffith University, and were cast in Boral Orange Cream concrete; an earthy tone to match the blue and green colour scheme of the campus.

Voids were created in the seats with casts so that laptop and phone charging outlets could be included. This is an essential design element for a university campus and encourages students to collaborate and study in the open, outdoor spaces.
