PLAYFUL DESIGN AND NATURAL STYLE FURNITURE TRANSFORM HALE SCHOOL, PERTH

06 Nov 2025

Creating vibrant and welcoming educational environments is essential to nurturing the growth and well-being of students. The redevelopment of Hale School in Perth, Western Australia, exemplifies how thoughtful landscape design and high-quality materials can transform a campus into an inspiring and inclusive space for learning and relaxation.

As part of the school’s ongoing redevelopment, Aspect Studios has reimagined several outdoor areas to encourage interaction, creativity and connection with nature. The design team chose to integrate semi-custom natural-style benches to define spaces and invite students to gather and unwind outdoors. These seating elements not only enhance the visual appeal of the campus but also foster a sense of calm and belonging, essential qualities for any modern educational environment.

The benches used at Hale School were designed and manufactured by Streetlife Australia Pty Ltd, a company renowned for its robust, sustainable, and aesthetically refined street furniture. Among the featured designs are Streetlife’s Rough & Ready Benches, which combine FSC® - certified hardwood with durable steel framing. This blend of natural and industrial materials creates a timeless look that seamlessly integrates into the landscaped surroundings.

Originally founded in the Netherlands, Streetlife has a strong global presence and continues to emphasize sustainability and local engagement. By producing its Australian collection locally in New South Wales, Streetlife not only supports regional manufacturing but also ensures shorter supply chains and reduced environmental impact. Their use of FSC® - certified hardwood guarantees responsible forestry practices, protecting tropical ecosystems while providing long-lasting, high-quality materials for public spaces.

This project at Hale School highlights how educational institutions are embracing sustainable, design-led approaches to redevelopment. By prioritising natural materials, local production and thoughtful spatial planning, schools like Hale are setting a benchmark for future-ready learning environments. Outdoor spaces designed with care and creativity encourage students to spend more time outside, feeling free, inspired and safe.

With further building phases on the horizon, Hale School’s evolving landscape continues to reflect a shared commitment between designers, manufacturers and educators: creating spaces that support both learning and well-being for generations to come.
