For some time, Australia’s long-term solution to the mounting waste problem has been to bury it or export it to China and other Asian countries. This solution no longer works with many - if not most - of Australian landfill sites nearing full capacity. In addition to this, in 2018, China placed a ban on the importation of Australian rubbish – notably plastic waste.
