AIRLIE BEACH FURNITURE STANDS STRONG

05 Jul 2018

Newly installed outdoor furniture always looks pristine, but how does it hold up in the long run? GX Outdoors travelled to Airlie Beach Lagoon to revisit a past furniture installation and witnessed it still standing strong, nine years and two cyclones later.

In May, GX Outdoors travelled to the Whitsunday’s to photograph the company’s GX Outdoors Smarter Barbecues that had recently been installed, and at the same time took a detour to Airlie Beach Lagoon to see the outdoor furniture they installed 9 years ago. Despite facing two severe cyclones, Debbie in 2017 and Quang in 2015, the furniture remains in near-pristine condition and still looks almost new.

In 2009, GX Outdoors was awarded the contract to supply numerous table settings and seats for the Airlie Beach Lagoon.

The Whitsunday Regional Council selected products from the Atessa range. The seats are produced using clear anodised 180mm x 35mm extrusion slats with aluminium end caps over fabricated aluminium frames, powdercoated in 'Silver Pearl'.  The Atessa range is long lasting and able to handle Australia’s harshest coastal climates – including cyclones!

In early 2017, this furniture’s hardiness was certainly put to the test.

Cyclone Debbie crossed the state of Queensland, passing very close to Airlie Beach and bringing gusts of wind up to 250km/hr.  These gusts caused significant damage throughout the region and swept large amounts of sand into the main areas of town. Grillex were confident in the exceptional manufacturing of their furniture that would withstand everything Debbie could throw at Airlie Beach.

Tropical Cyclone Debbie was the strongest tropical cyclone in the Australian region since Quang in 2015 and was branded as the most dangerous cyclone to impact Queensland since Yasi in 2011.

GX Outdoors' furniture has stood the test of time, after 9 years of standing out in the harsh climate at Airlie Beach, the furniture shows only minimal discolouration and marks, an amazing feat for so many years in such a climate.
