Progetto CMR, the architecture firm led by Massimo Roj, has presented plans for a major new project that is currently under construction. Located in Chongqing, the economic engine of southwest china, Xiantao Big Data Valley combines high-tech IT facilities with a full range of residential facilities, creating a self-sufficient district. Alongside offices dedicated to big data production, the project also includes apartments, retail outlets, schools, and a luxury hotel. Large green areas, including parks, gardens and lakes, also form a large part of the plan.

The client asked Progetto CMR to design a scheme that manifested its core business (big data) in the form of architecture. This is particularly evident in the project’s centrepiece, a three-tower complex that represents the three core components of data processing: storage, sensing and data mining. The buildings are symbolically united at their crowns by a circular structure, which serves as exhibition space. Here, visitors can enjoy views on the surrounding area at a height of 100 metres.

Five sculptural residential buildings, backed by real estate company Soho, are located adjacent to the landmark complex. Six office buildings are also included. Finally, a wave-shaped hotel embraces the park and the lake while forming an intimate and secluded part of the plan. The 700,000 square metre development is currently under construction and was recently selected as a finalist of the 2018 MIPIM awards.
