Vivid Sydney 2019 features eight immersive sites across the city, 50 light installations and 3D mapped projections, over 2.3 million visitors expected and the Lighting of the Sails tribute to Australia’s native plants.

Every year Vivid wows the world in the much-anticipated annual celebration of creativity and innovation. Vivid Light will illuminate Sydney’s skyline with Lights On! from 6pm each evening for 23 nights. The Harbour City gets into party mode in what is a prodigious boon for the local nightlife and night-time economy.

“This is an experience you can’t have anywhere else in the world,” said NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian. “During winter many cities around the world hibernate but Sydney does the opposite - we come alive! This is supposedly our winter festival but it feels like the brightest day in summer because of the lights coupled with such a wonderful atmosphere create such a positive experience and I just hope more and more people come to see it and feel it.”

Lights On! marks the beginning of Vivid Sydney, a modern symphony of light art technology, evocative performances and future-facing talks. This year’s line-up includes the eagerly anticipated Lighting of the Sails on the Sydney Opera House with artist Andrew Thomas Huang’s incredible Austral Flora Ballet; the stunning EORA: Broken Spear projection on the Sydney Harbour Bridge’s southern pylon; Tumbalong Lights – a precinct of accessibility and inclusion in Darling Harbour; and the fun and funky retro satellite dish KA3323 in the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney.

“23 days of bright, beautiful happiness – it’s the largest festival of music, light and ideas that exists in the Southern Hemisphere,” said NSW Minister for Tourism Stuart Ayres. “There is absolutely something for everyone in Vivid Sydney.”

Vivid Music is set to dazzle again with acts like The Cure, Australia’s Eurovision hero Kate Miller-Heidke and the ever-popular FKA Twigs all gracing the stage throughout the festival. Plus, there are energetic musical sideshows like the X|Celerate Program: Come Together to ensure there’s a little something for everyone.

And Vivid Ideas is sure to inspire some provocative and innovative thinking with talks like New Horizons: The Darkest Web; Vogue Codes Kids; Vivid Art After Hours: You Can’t Say That and the already sold-out Game Changers.
