FESTIVAL TO REIGNITE SYDNEY OLYMPIC PARK PRECINCT

29 Mar 2022

The Park Sounds festival provides a new platform for artists in Western Sydney and offers Sydney Olympic Park the opportunity to once again thrive as a public space.

Sydney Olympic Park (SOP) is thrilled to announce the launch of Park Sounds, a dynamic new festival that celebrates music, art, sport, culture and food. The electric program is set to reignite Sydney Olympic Park as a major events and entertainment precinct.

From Friday 18 March to 28 May, the festival will host more than 96 events, including music gigs, and employing more than 90 artists in 10 venues over 10 huge weeks. Sydneysiders can explore gigs, bars, indoor and outdoor spaces with plenty of action for music lovers, foodies, families and sports fans of all ages.

This will include a brand-new Light Market, a musical line-up featuring Australian talent including big name artists, a program of emerging musicians plus street food in outdoor locations, bars and restaurants open seven days a week, and even a kid’s rave!

The sporting season will kick off with soccer, AFL and NRL, with loads of pre- and post-game activity for people to sink their teeth into. There will also be free and ticketed arts and cultural events including Heaps Gay, Astral People and Pub Choir.

The huge activity line-up will be situated inside and around the venues, parks, bars and restaurants, plus new precincts that haven't been previously activated. Visitors of all ages will be able to arrive early and kick on post game while they soak up the best of the Park's surroundings.

"Park Sounds will create opportunities for the creative sector so heavily affected by Covid-19 lockdowns," said Chief Executive of Sydney Olympic Park, Anita Mitchell.

“Performers and live entertainment were among the first to be shut down when the pandemic struck and are still yet to reach a level of normality, so Park Sounds will give them a much needed boost."

A total of more than $500,000 has been allocated by Investment NSW, Multicultural NSW and Create NSW, supporting artists to play in the streets and venues of Sydney Olympic Park, as well as its public spaces.
