ALL TOGETHER WITH MPS PAVING

05 Mar 2020

Street surfacing takes on an artistic flavour when Sydney artist Nastia Gladushchenko created 'All Together', an abstract public street mural, using vibrant shades of Streetbond™ from MPS Paving.

Located in Kogarah, All Together is part of a street improvement project led by Georges River Council. Commissioned to create a street mural that would surround a new Chillout Hub designed by Street Furniture Australia, artist Nastia Gladushchenko met the brief for something “different and unique” for the area.

The Chillout Hub, which is designed to gather people to eat, meet and work outdoors, is equipped with lighting, furniture, charging points and free wifi. A mural was commissioned for the space in order to activate the space, reduce heat transmission from the pavement and add visual interest.

All Together is “A celebration of togetherness and of our unique Australian plant-life. The idea behind this mural was to bring the flora originally found in this area back through art,” explained the artist.

“Look closely at the silhouettes to see if you can recognise a White Sallow Wattle stem, a Blue Flax Lily flower, a Blackthorn flower or a False Sarsaparilla flower, and then keep an eye out for them growing together in the streets. Just like the natural environment, we are all connected, we are all together here,” she added.

Measuring 15-metres long by 3-metres wide the mural is comprised of minimalist native floral silhouettes in a mix of soft pastels and vivid hues; eight different, overlapping shapes in eight different colours. Endeavouring to ensure longevity and durability for the artwork, All Together was applied using Streetbond™, a textured coating and paving paint.

Streetbond™ is anti-slip and easy to apply. Available in a wide range of colours, this flexible surfacing paint was the ideal product to achieve the objectives of the project and meet Council requirements for safety and aesthetics. In employing Streetbond™ to render All Together a part of the urban landscape in Kogarah, Nastia has assured her work will stand the test of time.

COLOURS USED

  • Mustard
  • RT3 Red
  • Marigold
  • Pensive Pink & White (custom mix)
  • CCS Eucalyptus
  • Pale Eucalypt
  • Pale Eucalypt (quarter strength)
  • Seafoam & White (custom mix)

These colours matched the initial concept closely and worked beautifully together. The flexibility to tweak the tones of the Seafoam and Pensive Pink paints was great, as they were originally a little too bright/saturated.

The Streetbond™ range can really rejuvenate the surfaces to which they are applied. “Paving doesn’t have to be dull, boring or old and tired,” claims MPS Paving.

“With our internationally recognised paving paint, you can use your creativity to make the paving in your commercial building business or home stand out. Streetbond™ textured coating and paving paint is a practical solution to bring softness and colour to otherwise hard-formed surfaces and structures, with the added benefit of anti-slip properties.”
