TIPS ON MAINTAINING OUTDOOR FURNITURE

Outdoor furniture involves all the additional outdoor elements that complete the look and feel of a house, especially, if you have a garden. While investing in outdoor furniture, you should choose furniture that is worth the investment, be it tables or chairs or even a simple umbrella for your patio. At the end of the day, the purpose of the furniture is to provide relaxing moments and a comfortable experience, when you are outside in your garden or on your porch on a warm evening or while you are having a small barbeque party. Maintaining outdoor furniture will ensure their life and durability too.

Outdoor furniture is either made of aluminum, plastic, steel or wood and most of them are designed with technology and techniques that will help them to withstand varied weather conditions and other exposures. For example, exposure to the sun and rain can cause damages to the outdoor furniture, like the patio furniture. In fact, some of the outdoor furniture also gets damaged on a permanent basis because of moisture and heat. Paints might get peeled off, some wooden parts may get deformed or metal parts like nuts and bolts may even lose its shiny appearance due to rust. As a result, you will have to replace your furniture, which will get heavy on your pocket, as outdoor furniture does not come cheap!

Tips on taking care of outdoor furniture

• If you have wooden outdoor furniture, then the first thing you should do is seal the furniture with wooden sealers. This will help in ensuring longevity of the wood and prevent it from getting warped.

• Get rid of old paint from the furniture, by scraping it off and then use sand paper to smoothen the surface.

• Once you have smoothened the outdoor furniture with sand paper, apply fresh coat of paint and wait for it to dry, so that you can end the process by spraying or painting wooden sealers, if the furniture is made of wood.

• Use vegetable oil for metallic parts of your outdoor furniture to ensure their prolonged life and quality. Metals are vulnerable to rusts and therefore, outdoor furniture made of metals like, iron, aluminum etc. gets damaged within sometime. An oil coat prevents moisture and rain to seep through them and act as a protective layer for the furniture or metallic parts.

• Seal cracks with putty at the very instant you see one. This will prevent the cracks from getting wider and bigger than before. Once the putty gets dried up, paint and seal it for the protection of your furniture.

• Always keep patio heaters well-covered and in shady areas because too much exposure to moisture and heat will cause damage beyond repair in no time.

Outdoor furniture if not maintained and taken care of, on a regular basis, will look ugly and give an unwelcoming feeling to you or your guests. Paint your outdoor furniture on a regular basis, preferably every 3 years, to prevent premature paint peeling and fading. The bottom line is to keep your outdoor furniture look brand new always so that you can enjoy some sun and fun outdoors!
