Parkequip, along with other contractors, worked on the design and construction of the Aquatic Play Area in this state-of-the-art facility for over three years. Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre is the largest pool complex in Sydney since the 2000 Olympics. The striking design was inspired by Sydney ocean pools and is both beautiful and functional. The expansive complex is set to be Australia’s most accessible and sustainable facility of its kind.

Using toned down colours, Parkequip allowed the brilliance of the building and the surrounds to stand out. The waterpark features an Activity Tower, an elevated structure jam packed with action. It contains floor sprays, spray arches, cannons, a large Mega Soaker tipping bucket and a double-wide slide. The slide allows two children to race to the bottom, side by side or a parent and bub to descend comfortably together.

The toddler area features a smaller Twin Tot slide as well as various smaller and more gentle spray elements. Much thought has gone into the spacing and position of each water feature relative to the water depth.

An innovative energy co-generation system is used to heat and power the centre. The system offers flexibility in managing energy consumption and helps reduce the carbon footprint. It also makes the centre significantly cheaper to run every year. A large array of solar panels on the roof of the centre is connected to the local electricity network. This allows any surplus electricity to power buildings in the neighbouring community and cultural precinct. The centre also has the ability to run fewer water features at a time during the parts of the day where fewer people are using the play element, saving on power.
