Vibrantly Coloured Platforms Brighten Up Vienna's Waterfront

Design studio Mostlikely has transformed Vienna’s Danube Island into a public space featuring inclusive architecture.

The waterfront promenade includes a large bathing area, seating steps that lead to a shallow zone for children and larch wood platforms ideal for sunbathing. A floating round overhang creates a unique centerpiece, while planted seating islands and nets suspended over the water provide additional resting areas.

Scattered wooden platforms, accented with vibrant colors, are playfully arranged like confetti across the landscape, offering views of the riverbanks and the Vienna skyline.

The project aims to welcome the entire city in the relaxed environment of Pier 22, where one can enjoy multiple activities and feel a part of the community. Native grasses, perennials and newly planted trees provide shaded areas and reconnect the project with its natural floodplain origins.

Curved balconies float above the promenade in the Park-Working area, offering spaces equipped with desks, various seating arrangements, and free public Wi-Fi.

Soft pastel tones saturate this space, making it ideal for spontaneous outdoor working, while pergolas with wooden slats provide shade during the day and soft lighting at night.
