Tonkin Zulaikha Greer Architects’ conversion of the former cargo wharves into a home for organisations housing arts was described as a masterful integration of the heritage building and contemporary building requirements.

“Transformative in scale and detail, Walsh Bay Arts Precinct has created a wealth of arts and cultural spaces from a much-love piece of public infrastructure,” the jury said.

“The triple-glazed theatre walls afford spectacular views of the Harbour Bridge whilst achieving the acoustic standards for a chamber orchestra performance, just one example of the technical feats achieved.”

The Walsh Bay Arts Precinct project also received The Greenway Award for Heritage, a Public Architecture Award, and an Interior Architecture Award.

The New South Wales Architecture prizes were livestreamed celebrating the state’s most innovative and thoughtful designs for the built environment. The prestigious awards span architecture in public zones, education, commercial, residential, interiors, heritage, sustainability, and urban design.
