TIPS TO MAKE EXTERIOR LIGHTING PART OF YOUR OUTDOOR DESIGN

19 Dec 2011

One of the most important parts in creating an incredible landscape design is to incorporate outdoor lighting.

One of the most important parts in creating an incredible landscape design is to incorporate outdoor lighting. However, you have to do it right or the lighting will actually take away from the design, rather than lending to it. What should you know? Here are a few tips on incorporating outdoor lighting into your outdoor design.

Incorporate Outdoor Lighting into Rock Features

If you have rock features in your landscape design, you can add outdoor lighting that blends in perfectly. In fact, you’ll find that there are outdoor lights that look like stones, but have recessed lights that allow you to provide illumination or a focal beam to highlight a specific feature that you want.

Water Feature Lighting

If you have a water feature in your outdoor design, you can incorporate outdoor lighting here too. You’ll find specialty lights that are designed to be placed underwater, as well as those that can be placed in the water with the actual light portion extending above the water’s surface. Spotlights and specialty lights can be used to great effect here, but make sure that the lights you buy are rated for in-water use.

Path Lighting

Exterior lighting for paths and walkways can be an excellent way to lend your outdoor design the look that you want. You’ll find elegant exterior lighting on offer, as well as lighting that’s designed to blend into the area. You will even find lighted walkway stones that use solar energy to power LED lights.

The Most Important Consideration

Adding exterior lighting to your garden or yard is an excellent way to increase beauty and usability. However, it can also be hard to do. The best option here is to work with an expert landscape designer so that you can ensure the outdoor lighting you choose really does what you want, rather than taking away from the overall design.
