Technicolour Court Brings Colour to Paris

As part of fashionista Stéphane Ashpool's collaboration with Ill-Studio and Nike, a derelict courtyard in Paris has been reimagined into a vibrant technicolour basketball court in order to create an enticing new public space for the area.

Founder of French fashion brand Pigalle and self-confessed basketball fan, Stéphane Ashpool recreated this site with vibrant and smooth shades of saturated pinks, yellows, blues and purples. The gradient of the space shifts in colours, creating a space that is warm, open and inviting, and incites fun from every turn.

Pigalle’s newest clothing collection that was created with NIKElab was released simultaneously with the opening of the court – epitomising on the two brands’ collaboration. The collection features a 90s basketball-inspired aesthetic. The colours of the clothing and space were inspired by Ashpool’s view of “the golden era of basketball”, where a sun-drenched setting reflects iridescent light waves through the highly-saturated space.

"As a daily basketball player, I developed very early this idea of an on-court and off-court approach," says Ashpool.

The hues of the space were developed by Ill-Studio to complement the aesthetic of the clothing collection.

The court invites the public in through its hot pink and blue gates that open onto Rue Duperré. The modern new space is intended to inspire the local community and create a place that is lively and welcoming in an area of Paris that is historic and monochrome.
