SYDNEY CENTRAL URBAN OASIS

01 Sep 2022

Sydney Central Station is undergoing constructions a part of the Central Precinct Renewal Program that will see the transport hub turn into a bustling urban oasis with more housing, retail, offices and public spaces.

The Central Precinct Renewal Program is based in and around Sydney Central Station and its surrounding neighbourhoods. Covering a mighty 24 hectares, the long-term urban renewal program is categorized into three main sections, each with new housing, retail, three new parks and community spaces.

The northern sector, Civic, will include two of the three parks, Central Green and Central Square, as well as cultural and retail spaces. The middle sector, Innovation will home small businesses, research and creative studios and will be a central hub for transport and travel with connecting laneways into the surrounding suburbs. The southern sector, Living, will home new residential, workplace, education and more community spaces. With inclusions of active reaction zones, the Living sector’s main benefit is the new housing developments considered to include 15 percent affordable housing.

The renewal program is helping revive the transport interchange and creating a public space that celebrates Indigenous heritage and culture as well as providing a green area for Sydney siders to walk through and interact with on their way to work or explore on weekends.

The program is also contributing to NSW Government’s 2030 goal to reduce emissions by 50 percent and reach a net zero emissions by 2050.

Currently the Central Station Grand Concourse is undergoing renovations featuring the soon to be longest elevator in the southern hemisphere.

Have your say! Visit www.transport.nsw.gov.au/projects/current-projects/central-precinct-renewal-program for more information and to provide feedback on the Central Precinct Renewal Program until Monday 19 September.
