Sustainable Solar Paneled Facade

Australian studio, Kennon, is designing a new commercial office building in Melbourne with a sustainable façade.

Sustainable Solar Paneled Facade

550 Spencer is the new eight-storey complex that will home 1,000 glass-like solar panels around its exterior, using the suns natural source of energy to power the entire complex. It is expected that the facades solar power system will produce 50 times more electricity than a standard rooftop solar panel system. According to Kennon, 550 Spencer will produce more energy than it uses, reducing the costs of power.

Skala is the solar façade system that 550 Spencer will house from German company, Avancis. This is the first time this system has been seen in Australia and it is hoped many will turn to this sustainable method of energy.

Optimising space with the solar panel system around the exterior meant a rooftop garden could be designed. A creative space for business-goers to enjoy some peace and quiet from the busy work day and take in the Melbourne views and fresh air.

Set for completion in 2024, 550 Spencer is revolutionising sustainable energy use and is a head in the right direction for environmentally friendly alternatives  for commercial structures.
