The new Fitzroy Adventure Playground, part of the $36 million upgrade for the Rockhampton Riverbank, features play equipment supplied by Urban Play that helped local council deliver a playspace that is a drawcard for the region and embraced by the locals.

Working alongside Urbis, Woollams Construction and the Rockhampton Regional Council, Urban Play delivered a playground with a range of exciting play elements for children of all ages, one that pushed the boundaries of playground design and innovation.

Taking into consideration the potential for flooding, this iconic playground is set high on an embankment that is decorated with a custom rubber design in shades of green. The design ties in with the rest of the Riverbank precinct’s innovative architecture.

The embankment is adorned with orange rubber climbing domes, beige and green mountaineering ropes, and green climbing cleats that provide a fun and challenging climb up the embankment to the treehouse-styled sky cabins.

Sitting seven metres above ground are the custom-designed sky cabins that offer a never-before-seen breathtaking view of the Rockhampton Riverbank

Decorated in the same pattern that is weaved throughout the riverbank, the brown and green sky cabins allow children to safely experience the thrill of heights. The fun doesn’t stop at night, however, thanks to the installation of lighting throughout the sky cabins and sky walk.

Entry into the treehouse cabins can be achieved by climbing the four-metre-high, specially-designed Octanet, which can then be followed by an exciting slide down one of the two humongous stainless-steel slides.

For younger adventurers there is a designated play area with a Mega Tower Play Structure, Spinner Bowl and specially-designed Crocodile and Shark Seesaw.

Mayor Strelow from the Rockhampton Council stated, “We are very excited to bring what we believe is North Queensland’s best playground to the families of our region.”

Since its opening, the playground has been a massive hit with the Rockhampton community and is full of endless running, laughter, climbing and squeals of delight.
