MELBOURNE IS GETTING A NEW MEGA-SUBURB
06 Aug 2025
A new mega-suburb is being developed on the outskirts of northern Melbourne! Victorian Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny has approved the Beveridge North West Precinct, which will include 15,000 new homes, multiple town centres and schools and 13 MCGs’ worth of parks and reserves.
The approved structure plan details the development, which features 15,000 new homes, four town centres, eight schools and 13 MCGs’ worth of parks and reserves. The community is slated for the site 40km from the CBD between Beveridge and Wallan in the Mitchell Shire.
Once all stages are complete, Beveridge North West will be home to more than 47,000 Victorians and support nearly 3,000 local jobs, with everything families need close to home, including five community hubs, local shopping options and new cycling and pedestrian links.
In total, more than 320 hectares of land will be set aside for waterways, landscaping and drainage, including 79 hectares of dedicated parks and sports fields to keep the community active and connected to nature.
"This is a significant development for the area, delivering more homes and delivering on Victoria's Housing Statement," Sonya Kilkenny said.
The development balances urban growth with environmental considerations. Waterways and green spaces preserve natural drainage patterns. Sports fields and parks maintain community connections to nature.
The site is near the planned Beveridge Intermodal Terminal, which will serve as the Melbourne hub for the $31.4-billion Inland Rail freight project connecting the Victorian capital and Brisbane.
The precinct structure plan includes provision for a new quarry under strict planning controls, including mandatory closure and rehabilitation by 2052. Government sources said the quarry would support building material supply for housing and infrastructure development across Victoria.
Stage One covers 140 hectares with 2400 homes. Future stages await completion of the Camerons Lane interchange.
