Inclusive and Accessible Street Furniture

Last year, GX Outdoors was approached by Moira Shire Council to construct a park in Cobram, Victoria. The project encompassed an exceptional play area that responded to the local community's needs and provided opportunities for modular expansion. As Federation Park shares its location with several other free attractions, the space is guaranteed to have something for everyone.

GX Outdoors thrives on collaboration and places value on the voices of those in the community. Moira Shire Council shared this sentiment as, during the drafting process of the park, the Council consulted with the community and actioned their feedback. Creating positive and thriving partnerships between the community and its Council is vital as it ensures playspaces are constructed with the end users in mind, become popular in the community, and are positive vehicles for children's natural growth.

The key feedback given by the community was to create a space based on inclusivity and accessibility for all. Building inclusive and accessible spaces starts with open communication and the drive to ensure everyone, regardless of age or ability, can participate together and have access to amenities. GX Outdoors provided wheelchair-accessible table settings, Disability Discrimination Act Compliant seats, and Akora Cantilever Shelters, which have ample space for wheelchair users. Outdoor seating using HYVE 90-degree connectors was chosen for this project for its ability to configure, and suit any outdoor environment. It also offers a fresh approach to how communities can interact with outdoor spaces as it provides complete adaptability to how it is used.

The aluminum was wrapped in GX Outdoors' TimberImage solution, enabling the tables and seats to have a modern aesthetic and blend seamlessly into the existing space. GX Outdoors products are also wholly Australian-made, long-term peace of mind is guaranteed for clients and park users.

TimberImage is the perfect choice when constructing outdoor spaces as it is durable, sustainable, and easy to maintain. As the play equipment emphasises the theme of agriculture and represents the local region with inclusive and natural play elements, the TimberImage completes the design perfectly.

Cobram is a popular holiday destination, and in time, Moira Shire Council may choose to expand on play spaces and seating arrangements. HYVE 60-degree or 90-degree connectors enable the Council to enact further stages to existing structures easily, without compromising on maintaining meaningful social connections. GX Outdoors was honoured to have delivered the park furniture for this project and look forward to working with this Council again.
