COLOURFUL REMEDY FOR WINTER BLUES

03 Jul 2012

40 per cent of Australians agree that a splash of colour in the home makes a positive difference to how we feel over the winter months.

There is good reason to whinge about the winter weather – one in every two Australians says it has an effect on their mood. Of those affected, an overwhelming 85 per cent admit to feeling the winter blues.

But there is an easy remedy at hand with 40 per cent of Australians agreeing that a splash of colour in the home makes a positive difference to how we feel over the winter months.

The results from the Dulux Love Your Winter Blues Newspoll survey show that the power of colour is often underestimated.

“We’ve always known that colour can make a dramatic impact in the home and now we know that it really can provide an uplifting and mood enhancing feeling, especially during winter,” says Bree Leech from the Dulux colour studio.

“Colour represents positivity, creative expression and playfulness. Our survey helps remind us about the power of colour to brighten our outlook,” says Bree.

It’s easy to paint a small piece of furniture, door or wall in one of the hot new colours Dulux has chosen as best reflecting the key colour trends this winter.

“Pink is one of this season’s hottest colours and partners perfectly with accessories in greens, blues, charcoals or grey based purples,” says Bree.

“A pink colour scheme is perfect in a casual dining area, bedroom or in a light and intimate living space.”

Deep reds are the colour for winter as they can help to create the feeling of warmth and are a great choice for your entrance, hallway or master bedroom.

“Scheme rich deep reds alongside beiges, stones, whites, browns and deep charcoals and blues,” suggests Bree.

Vibrant greens are relaxing and restful to the eye and create a cool, fresh and calm atmosphere.

“Greens are very easy to live with and can be used in any room such as a bedroom or cosy reading room. Just be careful of using the darker greens in small, darker spaces,” says Bree.
