AUSTSWIM AND ISO
18 Oct 2015
AUSTSWIM is proud to announce a world-first with the accreditation of ISO 17024 status, and is setting an industry benchmark with its Learning Pillar Framework.
We all want the best, particularly when it comes to our children, so standards are important; they impact on the decisions we’ll make throughout our lifetime.
Surprisingly, until now, there had been no standards applying to the accreditation of Teachers of Swimming and Water Safety.
There were guidelines but none had the quality and assurance of an International or ISO Standard. ISO international standards ensure that products and services are safe, reliable and of good quality.
In a world first, AUSTSWIM, the Australasian Council for Teaching Swimming and Water Safety has undertaken a rigorous journey to proudly announce accreditation of ISO 17024 status.
Every AUSTSWIM licensed teacher of swimming and water safety is now ISO 17024 accredited to AUSTSWIM Standards.
An Accredited Quality FrameworkAUSTSWIM’s Learning Pillar Framework is an industry benchmark, clearly defining the attributes of quality swimming and water safety education and the essential learning elements for safer aquatic participation.
AUSTSWIM Learning Pillars are a three-tier framework:
Tier One
Knowledge, Skill and Understanding are the foundation pillars of the framework that detail essential learning elements for safer aquatic participation.
Tier Two
Curriculum Principles define function for swimming and water safety education.
Tier Three
Activity Principles guide teachers in the development of quality lesson activities and program delivery.
AUSTSWIM’s ISO Standard means:
Federal, State and Local Government can access a defined internationally recognised standard to benchmark and define quality swimming and water safety education within:
- Government departments
- Community development
- Health, Public Safety and Wellness
Parents and carers have clear guidance and direction to assess and select quality programs for their family.
Education Departments, Institutions and Organisations reference an internationally recognised standard with AUSTSWIM for swimming and water safety education.
The standard is high; AUSTSWIM is committed to reducing drowning, the impact of aquatic accidents and striving for safer swimming and water safety participation through education.
