Designed by London-based studio Eric Parry Architects, the headquarters spans across seven floors that each include a planted garden within a curved balcony space. The outdoor greenspaces offer a place for workers to rest and relax while taking in the neighbouring park and city views.
Due to Singapore’s frequent wet seasons, the ground floor offers an undercover plaza for workers to mingle and move freely around the building within a covered terrain. A statement piece within the building is the large, central skylight that provides sunlight for the ground floor planting and illuminates the enclosed ground floor plaza.
Containing laboratories and 20,000 square-metres of office space, the new headquarters includes an array of amenities such as an auditorium, staff cafeteria, gym and jogging track.
The garden spaces within the buildings are inspired by traditional Chinese landscape design, seen in the small garden layouts and inclusion of sitting areas. The biodiversity of the plant life is a reflection of the varied flora and fauna within Singapore.
Offering a relaxing outdoor oasis for workers, the Wilmar headquarters is a testament to how mundane buildings can be brought to life with the inclusion of gardenscapes and outdoor amenities.
