A Desert Recreational Centre

Located in the Chihuahuan Desert, El Paso, a 92-acre regional park has arisen. The inviting recreation centre and waterpark aids to enhance the quality of life for the local community and provides a safe haven for locals from the dry, desert heat.

A Desert Recreational Centre

The community of El Paso are celebrating the completion of the Eastside Regional Recreation Centre. Working on the large centre was the Dallas studio, Perkins&Will and architecture firm, In*Situ. The large recreation centre includes a natatorium, swimming centre, community centre, fitness centre, gymnasium, outdoor waterpark and an abundance of public spaces that will aid in bringing the community together.

A Desert Recreational Centre

The recreation centre is not only an escape from the heat for locals but educates the community on the benefits of physical activity and wellbeing.

Alongside the wealth of health spaces, the recreation centre includes a public art display by artist Brad Goldberg, inspired by the Hueco Tanks State Park. Embracing the surrounding natural environment, the public art display also acts as an outdoor community space with boulders to take a seat on. The display also includes a range of soft landscaping suitable to the desert environment.

In support of a city-led regional coloured lighting initiative, the south façade of the complex is illuminated at night in a variety of vibrant colours inspired by the flora within the public art display.
