Transforming a previously under-utilised parcel of land into a premium burial precinct, the project adds more than 2000 new grave sites to the cemetery. The works were split up into multiple stages across three contracts all delivered by ACE with stage 2 works now completed after the project’s initial commencement in 2024.
Botanical Hill has been carefully designed to provide a respectful and welcoming environment, featuring expansive views across the vast gardens of Song He Yuen and the western areas of the cemetery. ACE was responsible for the delivery of extensive civil and landscaping works, including road construction, retaining walls, drainage and irrigation systems, grave beams, and visitor amenities such as seating, taps, rubbish bins and signage.
The project builds on ACE’s longstanding partnership with SMCT, following the successful completion of several major projects at Springvale Botanical Cemetery alone, including the Song He Yuen Extension, Reed Lawn, and Mountford Drive. Across Victoria, ACE has now delivered more than $80 million of civil, landscaping and burial infrastructure works and completed over 16 cemetery projects.
A key factor in ACE’s success within the memorial park sector is our ability to operate sensitively within active cemetery environments. Throughout the Botanical Hill project, construction activities were carefully managed to minimise disruption to cemetery operations, visitors and surrounding parkland areas. The ACE team also implements strong environmental management practices, including the protection of high-value trees, responsible spoil management and controls to reduce impacts on local waterways and road networks. Botanical Hill showcases ACE’s expertise in delivering complex cemetery infrastructure projects with precision, respect and attention to detail, providing lasting value for cemetery operators and the communities they serve.
ACE'S SCOPE OF WORKS INCLUDES:
- Civil works including demolition, earthworks including excavation, and cut and fill
- Construction of retaining walls and wall graves
- Stormwater installation
- Construct asphalt roadways and carparks, including construction of road base, kerbs, footpaths, line marking and drainage
- Supply and installation of reinforced concrete beams
- Supply and installation of grave numbering and rivets
- Supply and installation of site fencing
- Supply and install of a water taps, bin surrounds, seats and associated concrete bases including any miscellaneous works
- Supply and install of concrete sign bases
- Supply and install of services including fully automated irrigation systems AND landscaping works including preparation of garden beds & lawn, planting of over 20 thousand plants
