A Community Upgrade

A new accessible public amenity and a state-of-the-art shelter were supplied and installed by Landmark at Cathro Park, QLD, as part of the ambitious upgrade masterplan that aims to make the area more attractive for the community.

A Community Upgrade

The upgrade of Cathro Park is part of a new link from the Railway Parklands Precinct to Queens Park. It provides an improved connection for pedestrians and cyclists with the shared pathway, especially between Ruthven and Neil streets.

The upgrade includes extensive landscaping of the park and the demolition of the old toilet block, which was replaced with a new all-access public amenity building supplied and installed by Landmark. Additionally, a new shelter from Landmark was installed to make the park more attractive for visitors.

A Community Upgrade

The upgrade also includes bike racks, bins, drinking fountains, new wayfinding, information and flood warning signs.

Landmark supplied and installed a modified K9505 Caretaker restroom that includes a five-degree pitched skillion roof, two ambulant cubicles, one unisex disabled cubicle, one servery nook with a curtain roller door with two external shot bolts, and a stainless-steel bench (designed with a step-up concrete slab).

A Community Upgrade

Perforated aluminium ventilation screens feature on all sides and the cubicle divisional walls, solid aluminium panels sit above the rear walls of all cubicles. It also includes a front modesty screen with steel rails and vertical slatted punched aluminium panels, and two service ducts, designed to AS1428.1-2009 code.

A key feature of the restroom is the bespoke outer walls, which feature a photograph of the area from the early 1900s, linking the park to its namesake: Mr Alexander Cathro, former Deputy Mayor of Toowoomba in 1911.

A Community Upgrade

The custom 4x4-metre steel skillion roof shelter, also supplied and installed by Landmark, provides a space for large social gatherings to occur, offers shelter in wet weather and acts as a key focal point of the park. The shelter includes a five-degree pitch roof, four inground steel posts and a perforated aluminium front screen, installed with a concrete slab 500mm past the drip line.

These new additions to Cathro Park improve the quality of the space for visitors and ensure facilities are available for all members of the community, no matter the age and ability.
