Yitpi Yartapuultiku

Situated on the banks of the Port River, in the heart of Port Adelaide, is the exciting new Aboriginal cultural centre Yitpi Yartapuultiku. The creation of this one-of-a-kind facility is one of the largest projects ever undertaken by the City of Port Adelaide Enfield Council.

Visitors can connect with the culture of the Kaurna, the traditional owners of the land, and develop a deeper appreciation for Country. Set within a beautiful natural landscape, Yitpi Yartapuultiku offers guided cultural tours, educational programs, a living shoreline and a nature play area for children.

DESIGN

With a strong focus on the use of natural materials, th nature play at Yitpi Yartapuultiku was conceived by Wax Design as a number of individual play spaces connected by winding paths and stepping stones that weave their way through trees and shrubs.

A true celebration of nature, each of the play spaces is beautifully blended into the natural landscape. Informative signboards at the play spaces provide insights and stories about Kaurna traditions.

EQUIPMENT

Urbania provided a variety of Richter Spielgeräte equipment for the playground, the centrepiece of which is a hugely impressive timber Climbing Structure. Made from handprocessed irregular logs, it looks completely at home in the nature play environment.

The Climbing Structure is big enough to handle a large number of kids at once. As well as climbing, it gives kids experience with heights and also makes for a nice spot to sit and take a moment.

Children of all ages are catered for, with the thrill of free swinging on the Tarzan Rope, whilst younger kids are delighted by a number of waterplay features, including a Spraying Head, Water Push Button and a fun Mushroom Spring.
