It takes its name from Wurundjeri language, which loosely translates as boomerang place.
DESIGN
Commissioned by Manningham City Council with support from the Victorian Government’s Local Parks Revitalisation Program, the playspace was designed by Playce with a tree canopy climb theme to connect children with nature.
In line with the council’s commitment to reconciliation, consultation included the Lions Club of Warrandyte, the Masterplan Community Reference Group, and the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation.
EQUIPMENT
Urbania's play partner Richter Spielgeräte custom designed senior and junior box towers which act as kid-size nesting boxes for the children.
The box towers are connected by a net tunnel which kids scurry across like possums clambering through the trees. There’s also a large tube slide for those in a hurry to get back on solid ground.
The park also has two triangular timber platforms, which are fun for all ages, particularly younger children as their unusual shape stimulates curiosity. Kids can imagine themselves swinging through the trees on the risky rope challenges and double swing set.
For those in need of a little time out after all their clambering and climbing, there’s a large and very comfortable net hammock to relax in.
