Whittlesea Public Gardens

Whittlesea Public Gardens is an outdoor recreation hub in Lalor, a fast growing suburb in northern Melbourne. Although popular with locals, the Whittlesea City Council believed the Gardens were in need of a transformation, to be more in keeping with contemporary community needs.

Their aim was to completely re-energise and update the area with modern amenities, with the intention of getting residents out of their lounge rooms and into the great outdoors. Stage one of the project was a huge new playspace, created for them by Urbania.

DESIGN

In collaboration with landscape architect McGregor Coxall and our play partner Richter Spielgeräte, Urbania designed and installed a range of timber play structures for children of all ages and abilities.

EQUIPMENT

Centrepiece of the playspace is a custom Richter Spielgeräte tower combination, comprised of five and three level towers, which are connected by a net tunnel with fun tube slide.

A second combination unit features two platform huts, which are connected by a suspension bridge, with a built in slide. The park also has a special wide stainless steel slide, making it three slides in all across the park.

Urbania also installed a number of sensory experiences for younger children, which spark curiosity and imagination.
