Designed by Aspect Studios, the park draws extensively on the local landscape, particularly its unique geology and flora. The park has completely transformed this formerly unloved area, and created a wonderful first impression for people arriving on the Spirit of Tasmania ferry.
DESIGN
Working in collaboration with Aspect Studios, Urbania designed and built a number of custom timber play elements, which were made from recycled hardwood. The playspace was designed to suit kids of all ages and abilities, with a nature-based play space proving very popular with the little ones.
EQUIPMENT
Urbania's partner Richter Spielgeräte supplied a number of hand-crafted timber pieces including the stunning centrepiece of the park, a large pyramid tower with tunnel slide, which provides plenty of thrills for kids who emerge into the daylight from the darkness inside the tunnel giggling with joy.
Play value is always a high priority for Urbania, and the Richter jackstraws see-saw delivers plenty. What may appear at first glance to be a handful of timber beams lying around, is actually a challenge of control and coordination for children.
The park also features a playground pump, which is always popular with very young children and a large climbing structure which is irresistible to kids of all ages. Created from hand-processed irregular round logs, climbing structures give children the opportunity to experience heights and balance while climbing, yet also offer a place to sit and observe.
