Sydneysiders are turning their heads to Paris, to get the latest in urban style. The Deputy Lord Mayor of Paris, Pierre Mansat is currently visiting Sydney for the Sydney Architecture Festival which runs from 24th October to the 4th of November. Last Thursday, 25th of October he attended the City of Sydney Design Excellence Forum, as keynote speaker.

Mansat’s speciality is the integration of the Paris city centre with the communities of the greater Paris Region, merging disparate outer suburbs into one, big, thriving and connected metropolis. He is also responsible for tackling major urban issues such as high-speed rail, light rail and the introduction of new business and retail precincts.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore believes “Paris is one of the world’s greatest and most beautiful global cities, yet just like Sydney it faces significant challenges when it comes to urban planning. We’re always eager to learn from the experience of other world leaders. Mr Mansat is an international expert on bringing bold visions to life, so we look forward to him sharing his views on how Sydney can meet the challenges of the future”.

Pierre Mansat also launched SuperSydney, which was the opening event of the Sydney Architecture Festival. SuperSydney is a project which seeks to examine metropolitan challenges by inviting the people of Sydney to contribute their visions, concerns and dreams for the future of the city. The project involved Architecture students conducting interviews with over 500 local residents from around the 42 Great Sydney Council Areas. The interviews can be viewed online in a stunning montage of Sydney voices from inner to outer Sydney, and everywhere in between.
