SYDNEY METRO ANNOUNCES PARTNERS FOR HUNTER STREET PRECINCT

The appointment covers construction of the Hunter Street Metro station and two over-station developments, one above the western station entrance and one above the eastern entrance. Lendlease will deliver the station and the west tower at the corner of George and Hunter streets. Mirvac and Coombes Property Group will jointly deliver the east tower, between O’Connell and Bligh streets.

 

Lendlease Development CEO Tom Mackellar said: “We’re looking forward to working with Sydney Metro to deliver a seamlessly connected destination that integrates workplaces, retail and public spaces, creating long-term economic and social value for Sydney.”

Both proposals include commercial office space with retail and hospitality uses at lower levels, integrated with public domain works and underground pedestrian connections. Each tower will be activated by retail and hospitality offerings, alongside high-quality public spaces and laneways that create a destination for work, culture and connection.  

Michael Coombes, CEO of Coombes Property Group, added that the precinct would contribute to the city by delivering long-term commercial space and public amenity designed to serve both the workforce and the wider community. “Working alongside Grimshaw Architects, we are delivering a premium, sustainable workplace directly connected to the new metro at the heart of Sydney’s commercial core,” he said.

Construction of the station’s main works is expected to begin in late 2026. Metro West services are scheduled to begin in 2032.
