Once again the nursery industry has stood out in the Savewater Awards with the NGIA member wholesale nursery, Cameron’s Nursery of NSW, taking out the Small Business section announced in Melbourne last Friday night.
The business award acknowledges outstanding water savings achieved by businesses and due recognition was paid to the NGIA for the support and leadership it has shown in water management throughout Australia.
This category recognises demonstrated innovation and achievement in the reduction of water used since the completion of the water and drainage system and the construction of the storage tank in 2011, the nursery has increased its water holding capacity by 240%. Moreover, in the 12 months to March 2012, the nursery has saved 36.75% in overall water usage, and an incredible 80% potable water usage.
Judges’ comments: Cameron’s Nursery has developed a first of its kind capillary watering system that encompasses design, use, capture and re-use of water, which has saved close to 20 megalitres over previous watering practices. They have shown a commitment to water-efficiency for over a decade and must be commended on their commitment to creating a healthy environment as well as focusing on recycling and energy savings across the board.
