This comprised a raised timber viewing deck with bleacher style seating and a weatherproof shade cover to enable year-round use.

Shadeform’s brief was to design and install a functional yet eye-catching waterproof shade solution that would complement existing college structures whilst providing protection from the sun during the summer months and rain over winter. With the viewing deck taking the form of an elongated rectangle, it became apparent that the most effective solution would be a repeating conic form to provide a visually striking and functional shelter.

Although the membrane is manufactured as a single skin, the arrangement of the structure is modular with 5 x equal sided 6.8-metres squares creating the elongated rectangular format which echoes the viewing deck’s linear shape. With the need to maximise views across the oval, the dimensionally stable multi-conic form is ideally suited having just 5 x support columns for 238 sqm of coverage.

The structure was designed to be self-supporting and independent of any buildings, keeping the engineering as efficient as possible. The structure includes a perimeter gutter with flying downpipes taking care of water runoff and a series of vertical lights on the structural columns for low light conditions.

With the addition of this stunning multi-conic membrane structure was installed over a new deck at Pedare Christian College to provide year-round shade and all-weather protection. The 238 sqm structure is supported by just 5 x columns and features a single skin PVC membrane for a durable and functional solution with 100 percent UV resistant and completely waterproof.
