SUBTLY EFFECTIVE DRAINAGE
11 Dec 2017
Providing a discrete and successful drainage solution for Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art, the Brickslot system is durable, aesthetically superior and suited to a range of applications.
ACO is the world leader in the design and manufacture of surface water management products. For a complete solution for every application, the ACO brand encompasses a group of products dedicated to solving very specific surface drainage issues.
ACO drainage systems consist of factory manufactured modular channel units made from corrosion resistant Polycrete channels, together with grates and slotted frames from a variety of materials for all loading applications, including the Brickslot.
Combined with Polymer concrete channels, the Brickslot drainage system from ACO is an unobtrusive drain with an asymmetric slot design that allows the system to be laid directly against a concrete wall footing or facade for use with brick or stone pavers up to 63mm deep. The 10mm slot blends in with the paving joints to provide an attractive finished product. This subtle drainage solution proved the perfect choice for the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney to protect the aesthetic integrity of this heavily trafficked tourist destination.
The Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) is a national resource for education and interpretative programs with two floors of galleries for exhibitions. Included in the brief for the upgrade of the pavement design outside the MCA entrance, the Designer specified a discretely positioned solution for utilities and services that created a minimalistic look. The solution - Brickslot.
A one-way fall built along the pavement surface to direct surface water towards the concrete barriers at the front of the MCA building was the perfect application for Brickslot. For enhanced durability, a frame manufactured from durable stainless steel was specified.
The Brickslot cover is typically used on the KlassikDrain K100 channel, but can also be used on the SlabDrain H100K if depth restrictions are a concern. An access unit provides discreet access to the channel or in-line pit for maintenance. The QuickLok locking system allows Brickslot units to be easily assembled and brick pavers fit directly against the slot.
