SPARROW PECK FINISH BLOCKS

KLS Sandstone were contacted by a client with a vision; to create a modern home designed with a nod to convict history and featuring a specialised sparrow peck finish.
The home features a grand entry which leads into inviting rooms lined with stone, and uses rock-faced finished blocks internally to create a contrasting finish. Sawn-finished sandstone frames the fireplace which is completed with a sandstone hearth.
The specialty lighting throughout the home and the skylights enhance and highlight the stone’s natural colour and beauty. 
Each block was hand-finished by KLS Sandstone’s stonemasons using traditional methods of mallet and tungsten carbide point. The “sparrow peck” is achieved by the stone surface being pitted using the point to produce a traditional heritage feel.
The versatility of natural stones like sandstone allow for surface treatments to transform the feel of a building completely – becoming a modern masterpiece or a timeless classic. 
The finished product is a comfortable family home surrounded by a seamless blend of classy modernism with ageless charm.
