ROCKET®POT PRODUCTION FOR BETTER TREES

02 Mar 2016

Mt William Advanced Tree Nursery stocks plants grown with the revolutionary Rocket®Pot, an advanced technology product that supports tree production to produce strong and stable specimens.

Established for more than 35 years, Mt William Advanced Tree Nursery are specialists in quality advanced native and exotic trees. Their stock is widely sourced and used extensively by councils, landscapers, developers and public authorities. They also supply direct to the general public.

Much of the tree production at Mt William is undertaken with the assistance of Rocket®Pot technology in a pest and disease free environment. This innovative system helps to produce a high quality root system that supports developing trees. Rocket®Pot containers have cusps in the wall and floor of the container that stops roots from circling and guides them to open space for air root-pruning.

The cusps in the Rocket®Pot wall permit high oxygen permeation of the growing medium. This allows for a lower air-filled porosity mix that is a better match with most site soils. The root system thrives and grows in this medium until they reach a cusp and come in contact with air, where they desiccate and lose apical dominance. As a result the plants have a longer shelve life and the roots do not spiral, preventing root girdling. When the Rocket®Pot is removed and the tree is planted, its many root tips and laterals will quickly and actively grow and establish into the site soil.

Formative pruning is done at Mt William several times throughout the year. Regular pruning is done to protect the structural integrity and health of the trees, reduce stress on the trees, and so wound closure on pruning cuts occurs quickly.

Regular formative pruning is also done to maintain apical dominance, crown symmetry and good central stem structure in young trees. And it prunes out included bark crotches, which can cause structural weakness if left within some species.

To assist you in your plant selection and planning, Mt William Advanced Tree Nursery employs helpful and knowledgeable staff for consultation on any project requirements. Contract growing of trees is a specialty and Mt William can produce tree quantities, in the desired containers and to height requirements, to fulfil the needs of any project.

Mt William Advanced Tree Nursery supports and promotes the recently approved Australian Nursery Standard AS2303.2015 throughout their facility.
