PROJECT JEWEL
23 Jul 2014
The world’s fifth busiest airport is about to get a whole lot busier with ‘Project Jewel’ set to become an iconic global attraction.
From the moment you arrive at Singapore’s Changi airport you’ll be greeted by a magnificent doughnut-shaped glass and steel construction, featuring a large scale indoor garden replete with waterfall.
Designed by Moshe Safdie, the architecturally iconic ‘Project Jewel’ will house five levels of shopping, leisure and entertainment options and five levels of underground parking. The crowning glory is the indoor garden with a 40 metre waterfall which falls from the roof’s doughnut-hole centre into a sparkling pool below.
“We are very excited about this opportunity to create an iconic global attraction that will capture the hearts of both tourists and Singaporeans,” said Mr Lee Seow Hiang, Changi Airport Group’s Chief Executive Officer.
“For tourists, we envisage ‘Project Jewel’ to be a must-visit Singapore attraction, located strategically at the doorstep of one of the world’s busiest air hubs. For Singaporeans, it will be an exciting world-class destination right here at home, where they can relax and enjoy with their loved ones, again and again.”
Construction for ‘Project Jewel’ is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2014, and the development is targeted to open by the end of 2018.
The overall infrastructure improvements are set to make the fifth busiest airport in the world, even more so.
