PLAN FOR HOTA LYRIC THEATRE REVEALED

16 Jul 2024

The HOTA Lyric Theatre, designed to be a cornerstone of the HOTA cultural precinct in the Gold Coast, is now a step closer to reality.

New plans reveal the development of a $538-million HOTA (Home of the Arts) lyric theatre precinct on the Gold Coast, with the city council setting aside at least $1 million in the budget to fast-track this ambitious arts project.

Renovation options for HOTA Central range from minor to major refits, including the outdoor stage and concert lawn, new foyer, cafes, bars and studio spaces, as well as upgrades to the existing 800-seat theatre and cinemas. The new 1800-seat Lyric Theatre, capable of hosting major productions, is projected to attract an additional 260,000 visitors annually.

Designed by ARM Architecture, the theatre will host around 200 performances annually, including international and national touring musicals, ballet, opera, comedy and live music. This world-class venue will offer an unparalleled experience for residents and visitors alike, while creating numerous job opportunities for local arts workers in the Gold Coast’s thriving performing arts industry.
