PENRITH STATION PROVIDES SHELTER

28 Jun 2018

Penrith Station recently underwent an ambitious vicinity upgrade to improve the travelling experience for customers. Stoddart were engaged to design, fabricate and install a set of stylish and practical custom walkways and shelters for the precinct.

Aimed at improving the ease with which patron’s interchange between transport modes at the station, the single and double-sided cantilever roof structures line the bus pickup and set down driveway that passes under the elevated station concourse.

Stoddart supplied six products in three primary configurations, each with their own set of features and fabricated to suit their specific site locations. The main highlight is a 113m long double-sided walkway shelter that can hold eight parked buses and provides a continuous covered area of over four metres as it follows both the curve and slope of the road.

The flexibility of the all-aluminium proprietary-extrusion Wellington Shelter design is perfectly suited to customising solutions, not only modularly in length, but also by easily and discreetly integrating features that provide exceptional patron safety and comfort. At Penrith Station, these included bench seating and/or leaning rails, walkthrough and/or wire mesh infilled bays, CCTV cameras and high-output vandal-resistant lighting. While these features were applied to each structure depending on its individual purpose, the consistent qualities of solid construction, powdercoat finishes and skilled installation, are consistent across the entire project.

Stoddart Infrastructure was built on the supply of public transport infrastructure solutions and the success of products like the Wellington Shelter. Similarly, it continues to thrive through opportunities, such as the Penrith Station Upgrade, and partnerships with builders, local and state governments, and transport bodies in NSW and other Australia state transport providers. Stoddart's end-to-end service, from design and engineering through to installation and project management, gives customers confidence in the knowledge that they will always receive innovative, focused outcomes to the challenges presented by each project and site.

Stoddart Infrastructure products include transport shelters, walkways, bicycle infrastructure and perforated metalwork, including PerfArt. See the Stoddart Infrastructure webpage for more information via the link below.
