Each year, Parks and Leisure Australia (PLA) acknowledges excellence in the industry through its Awards of Excellence. These annual awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding initiatives and innovative efforts of 'the people behind the places' which promote good use of leisure time with social, environmental and economic benefits to the community. This provides an opportunity for the recognition of leaders in the industry and for projects, initiatives and facilities completed in the last two years.

There are two distinct stages of the PLA Awards of Excellence program; the first stage is a region program, and the second stage is the national program. All winners at region level will progress to become National finalists. National finalists will then be invited to attend the National Award ceremony on 14 September in Sydney where Australian landscape architect and television presenter Costa Georgiadis will be your host for the night. The National Award ceremony will be part of the National Conference, 13-15 September 2021 in Sydney.
