NEW ENTERTAINMENT PRECINCT TO OPEN IN PERTH THIS SUMMER
24 Sep 2025
A multi-venue hospitality precinct is about to emerge this summer in East Victoria Park, WA, as part of a $25 million transformation of one of Perth’s heritage gems. The Elizabeth Baillie Redevelopment Project (formerly known as the Edward Millen Redevelopment Project) will see the heritage-listed Elizabeth Baillie House, surrounding buildings and Elizabeth Baillie Park transformed into a vibrant, inclusive and sustainable hub for the whole community.
At 15 Hillview Terrace in East Victoria Park, the Elizabeth Baillie Precinct is the heritage gem of the Town of Victoria Park. In February 2006, the site was gifted to the Town by the WA State Government for the purpose of “community, recreational or civic use.” Since then, realising the full potential of the site and bringing Elizabeth Baillie House back to life has been a top priority for the Town.
Baillie Hill will incorporate the stunningly restored Elizabeth Baillie House, a heritage-listed building that has played a vital role in Perth healthcare over the past 113 years. Formerly the Rotunda Maternity Hospital, the 1912 building was Western Australia’s first specialty maternity hospital, before becoming a hospital to treat patients of the 1919 Spanish Influenza epidemic, then for the repatriation and treatment of servicemen post-World War Two, and then later as both as psychiatric and physiotherapy ward.
Now, the site will enter a new era, with the Baillie Hill precinct soon to be home to five hospitality venues amongst lush green spaces and community activations. As Hospitality Operating Partner and East Vic Park local Carl Leembruggen puts it, “Baillie Hill is designed to feel like your new local, even if you’ve lived in Vic Park forever. It’s not just about what’s on offer, it’s about how the space brings people together.”
Hospitality venues will take visitors from early morning coffees through to evening dinners, and everything in between. From cafes and bistros to a bar and gelato store. Across the precinct’s outdoor spaces, there’ll be heaps to keep big and little kids entertained, whether clambering over Milly’s Playground, visiting some furry friends at the Baillie Stables petting zoo, exploring the market gardens or checking out the local makers at the community markets. Plus, a collective of artists studios within the precinct means opportunity for creative workshops.
The adjoining Elizabeth Baillie Park is also benefitting from a huge $8.1 million upgrade, including the Mildred Creak Playground designed in collaboration with Autism Association WA with a purpose-built play area for neurodiverse children, an amphitheatre, nature play areas, BBQ facilities and more.
“This is a space built for families, creatives, neighbours and visitors alike,” says Dane Oddy, Baillie Hill’s General Manager.
Baillie Hill is set to open in Summer 2025, and will be located at 15 Hill View Terrace, East Victoria Park
