The ceremony for the 2018 National Landscape Awards opened the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects’ (AILA) annual International Festival of Landscape Architecture.

Across 14 categories, 38 awards were given to projects and companies that created spaces that prioritised public space that encourage activity and wellbeing for Australia’s communities.

AILA National Jury Chair, Sara Padgett Kjaersgaard, stated that “This year’s awards continue to demonstrate the breadth of work of landscape architectural practice and research, and the influence the profession has in leading the creation of high performing, meaningful and beautiful spaces that support the health and well-being of our communities. We commend the inspiring leadership shown by landscape architects been able to take big thinking and enact this locally to create change.”

The jury consisted of Kjaersgaard, Sharon Mackay, Paul Herzich, John Watson, Sarah Chalkley, David Warwick and Mark Gillingham, who commended all awarded projects “For their engaging, forward-thinking, challenging and successful demonstration of thinking, leadership and results.
