LED ILLUMINATED GLASS SPORTS FLOORING
12 Apr 2024
LED lighting is taking indoor sports courts to a whole new level.
A German company, ASB Systembau, have developed a product that utilised LEDs to create the markings required to delineate sports courts and change boundary lines.
ASB Glassfloor is a new type of glass surface that utilises programmable lighting to create lines for indoor sports playing grounds, as well as video output with capabilities of rendering specific messages beneath the panels.
Due to the flexibility of such a system, it can be used for illuminating different courts at the touch of a button, switching courts for sports such as badminton, basketball, indoor soccer or hockey, handball or volleyball.
Using a series of modifications with ceramic treatments to reach levels of elasticity and friction similar to traditional indoor courts, the surface technology provides enough bounce to make sure a ball responds the same way it would on a wooden floor. Combined with sensor technologies, digital markings can also provide reference to where a player’s foot stepped out of bounds, or where a ball landed.
What will they think of next!
