KEYNOTE ADDRESS BY POPULOUS

22 Mar 2017

Global Design Director of Populous, Michael Lockwood, has been announced as this year’s Keynote Speaker for DesignBUILD 2017, together with an exciting line up of notable speakers.

DesignBUILD is offering a rare opportunity to visit Sydney’s $1.5 billion International Convention Centre. Gain behind the scene access and hear from the ICC’s key designers. In terms of professional development, it doesn’t get much better than this!

DesignBUILD will be the first building and architectural event to be held at the ICC, which was designed by HASSELL + Populous for the Darling Harbour Live consortium, The consortium, which is comprised of Lendlease, HOSTPLUS, First State Super, Capella Capital, AEG Ogden and Spotless, partnered with the NSW Government to create Australia’s premier convention, exhibition and events destination, ICC Sydney.

This year’s keynote speaker has been confirmed as Michael Lockwood, the Design Director of Populous’ global Convention Centre team. Michael will be leading two sessions in the program and will be joined by other notable event speakers, including:

  • Graeme Spencer, HASSELL – ‘ICC | Transformative Facades
  • Anthony Burke, University of Technology Sydney – What’s New in Building Technology
  • Georgia Sedgemen, Tract Consultants | Liveable Sydney 2021
  • Mal Corboy, Mal Corboy Interior Designs NZ | Luxury and Innovation
  • David Baggs, Global Green Tag | Product Led Climate Recovery

The sites of these presentations, two speaker theatres and the Incubator Pavilion, are being designed via DesignBUILD RAW, an exciting design initiative launched in 2017 to showcase the very best of emerging talent. RAW is run in partnership with the University of New South Wales, University of Sydney, and the University of Technology Sydney.

The speaker program is open to delegates of DesignBUILD, plus delegates from the National Architecture Conference and the PIA National Congress.

A full series of behind-the-scenes tours, hosted by joint venture architects HASSELL + Populous and the ICC Sydney team will also supplement the education opportunities onsite. At only $25 per seminar, the DesignBUILD program offers unparalleled value. Attendees top up their informal refuel points from the AIA by attending the seminars and also top up their MBA CPD points by attending the expo.

DesignBUILD, Australia’s largest gathering of architects, designers and building professionals, will debut at the ICC Sydney from 3 – 5 May. The 2017 event is already set to be 20% larger than 2016 and 40% larger than the award winning 2015 event - the last event held in Sydney.
