Inspiring Community Space at Howard Dawson Reserve

In close collaboration with ACLA Consultants and the City of Boroondara, the adventure+ design team set out to create a playground experience that inspires and energises children of all ages. The final layout delivers a vibrant, multi-layered play environment that encourages imaginative play, supports physical challenge and promotes positive social interaction in a safe, well-supervised setting.

Inspiring Community Space at Howard Dawson Reserve

By combining a broad mix of stimulating activities from traditional play elements to contemporary, innovative features, the playground provides a rich, engaging experience with something for every child to enjoy.

PROVIDING AN INCLUSIVE PLAYSPACE

The combination unit not only delivers outstanding play value, but it also provides accessible circulation throughout the playground and onto the main structure. A wheelchair‑friendly ramp, rubber undersurfacing pathways and a range of accessible ground‑level activities were all deliberately incorporated to ensure the space can be safely and comfortably enjoyed by children of all abilities.

CHEERFUL AESTHETIC

The playground has been carefully designed to create an inviting, vibrant atmosphere, combining warm, bright colours with a playful balance of steel and timber elements. Aqua and yellow highlights provide a cheerful contrast and strengthen the overall visual impact of the space. The combination of rubber and mulch undersurfacing further enhances the aesthetic while contributing to a comfortable, compliant and safe environment for children to play and explore. This cohesive design approach makes the play space an attractive, welcoming destination for families.
