FUTUREWOOD'S LOW HEIGHT DECKING SOLUTION

30 Mar 2023

At last, a simple and cost-effective solution to turning a rundown concrete or tiled alfresco into a modern, beautiful entertainer’s deck.

With Futurewood’s new specially designed aluminium joist and low height adjustable pedestal sub frame it is easier than ever to install a beautiful, low maintenance, CleverDeck composite timber deck over the top of any old concrete patio or alfresco area.

This system requires a hard, stable, well drained surface for the sub frame to sit on.

Ideally the surface would be a concrete slab, pavers or tiles. If the subframe is being installed over a garden or lawn area, then the area must be well drained. Any vegetation needs to be removed along with loose soil until a hard, stable clay base is established, a geo-membrane should be applied over the bare soil and 300mm x 300mm x 50mm concrete pavers placed over the soil at appropriate intervals to support the subframe.

Futurewood’s low height subframe and decking solution comes with the option of different size adjustable pedestals so that you can cover a range of different heights and easily achieve a level deck or a slight fall away from the house.

The combination of the low height aluminium joist and pedestal allows for installations as low as 66mm. This way it is easy to match the height of the outside deck to the internal floor and not have to have a step. As well, if the site includes doors leading from the inside of the home out onto the patio, the traditional framing would be too high and would not allow the doors to open.

This simple solution is very cost effective compared to a traditional decking subframe. Where there is more height available it is easier to substitute a 90mm high treated pine joist for greater spans (less pedestals) and further cost savings. The decking component of a landscaping project will be more cost effective, and this added time and material saving can be used to help win the job or enhance other areas of the project.

Best of all the new adjustable height sub frame solution allows for easy installation of Futurewood’s premium composite timber decking boards with two decking types, two different board widths and 12 colours to choose from.

The composite decking choices include; CleverDeck Xtreme capped co-ex composite timber decking available in both 138mm wide and 185mm wide decking boards and up to eight colours with a subtle fine grain pattern finish and suitable for BAL-29 bush fire prone areas.

CleverDeck Original solid composite timber decking in a 138mm wide decking board, double sided in up to four colours with a coarse sanded P5 non-slip finish and the colour running right through the board.
