FLEMING’S NURSERIES RELEASES NEW TREES SET TO PLEASE

08 Dec 2022

Fleming’s Nurseries are Australia’s leading tree grower and experts in introducing new cultivars to the Australian market.

With over 100 years’ experience in growing, developing, selecting and introducing new species, Fleming’s know what they are doing, and this next 12 months will see a collection of exciting new cultivars set to hit the market.

Landscape architects and Councils across Australia will be thrilled to learn Fleming’s are working on introducing three new maples – perfect for the urban environment.

Aiming to help expand the tree pallet available to the new urban street environment, Fleming’s have been working hard to bring through these three beautiful maples as soon as possible.

Acer truncatum x platanoides ‘JFS-KW202’ Crimson Sunset

Heat tolerance is the distinguishing characteristics of this Acer truncatum hybrid. Its foliage resembles that of Crimson King, but its form is more upright and compact. Thanks to the Acer truncatum parentage, it flourishes in the summer heat where few purple leafed plants will thrive. Will grow to approx. 10m x 7m at 20 years.

Acer truncatum x platanoides ‘JFS-KW249’ Ruby Sunset

Ruby Sunset will make a great choice for smaller sites requiring a more compact tree. The elegant foliage stays fresh and glossy throughout the growing season. The form of this tree is lovely and more broadly rounded than the sister trees which are more formal in shape. Will grow to approx. 7m x 6m at 20 years.

Acer truncatum x platanoides ‘JFS-KW187’ Urban Sunset

This is a quite compact, upright and narrow form which will develop a strong central calliper well and is highly uniform canopy with minimal pruning. Easy to grow and relatively problem free, it will grow into an ideal, upright street tree form. will grow to approx. 12m x 6m at 20 years.

There are plenty more coming with two lovely ornamental crab apples ideal for tight spaces as both are narrowly upright growing small trees.

Malus ‘Raspberry Spear’

This little beauty combines several unique characteristics including an upright, columnar habit, disease resistant purple foliage and a display of bright pink flowers in spring. Will grow approx. 5m x 2.5m at 20 years.

Malus ‘Ivory Spear’

This lovely white flowering malus is upright growing and producing a heady abundance of flowers in spring. Displaying strong disease resistance and a narrow upright form. Will grow to approx. 4.5m x 2m at 20 years.

Cercis chinensis ‘Faerie Queen’

Fleming’s love a good Cercis (Redbud) and have been consistently introducing new varieties in recent years. This form is an Australian selection and is now part of Fleming’s Enchanted Forest range. A small tree at just 3m, Faerie Queen is an excellent feature tree with spring brining a display of rich rose purple flowers along the branches.

‘Snow Queen®’ cv. ‘Vic Tall’ Plum

Looking for a fruit tree that double as an ornamental? Look no further than Snow Queen®’ cv. ‘Vic Tall’ Plum is particularly diverse tree as it boasts both ornamental value as well as a good crop of fruit, making it perfect for those that are looking for it all. The plentiful spring blossom is pure white and highly attractive and will develop into a good crop of tiny plums perfect for little hands and lunch boxes. The fruit is also very pretty on the tree or in the fruit bowl. Snow Queen® will cook well and ideal for a delicious jam.
