Europe's Largest Green Wall

Citiscape House, a luxury multipurpose complex in London, England, will feature Europe's largest green wall at a staggering 3716 square metres, which will absorb a predicted eight tons of air pollution per year. Consisting of 400,000 plants, the wall will wrap around the hotel and will contain spaces for threatened specifies to thrive.

Citiscape House will feature a five-star luxury hotel with 382 rooms, 3716 square metres of workspaces, a sky bar, meeting and event spaces, a spa and a restaurant. The 11th floor will also include a public greenspace that will provide extensive views of St Paul’s Cathedral.

The complex is designed to be highly sustainable. The green wall will wrap around the entire exterior of the building and will contain 400,00 plants, including threatened species. The wall will absorb approximately eight tons of air pollution, produce six tons of oxygen and lower the surrounding temperature by 3-5°C. the wall will also snare 500kgs of toxic airborne matter per year.

The complex will also function sustainably with air-source heat pumps and a rainwater system to provide irrigation to the wall. 

The project will act as an example for the Urban Greening Policy developed by the New London Plan, which aims to encourage businesses to prioritise urban greening with a mandated Urban Greening Factor (UGF). Citicape House will exceed the required UGF by more than 45 times.

The striking green wall that will be visible from every angle of London’s Culture Mile, it is hoped that it will inspire those who see it to address environmental concerns.

Citiscape House is expected to be finished in 2024.
