CONCRETE PLANTER BOXES

Space is an issue in Sydney’s inner suburbs – particularly space for gardens. As such, the lightweight concrete planter boxes from Mascot Engineering are the perfect solution. The photo shows Mascot’s GRC (Glass Reinforced Concrete) Planter Boxes, which were installed in a small alcove in a terrace house in Sydney’s Inner West.

The Architect and owner wanted to bring light into the narrow house, creating a void on the northern boundary adjacent to the open plan living area. The space allowed for a small garden and after looking at all the options, they selected Mascot’s GRC Planters due to their strength and ease of installation. The Planters were carried through the house and passed through a bi-fold window into place – drainage holes were installed (simply using a hammer), and they were finished to match the surrounding brickwork.

GRC is a composite of concrete and fiberglass technologies. It has the benefits of both products - the solidity of concrete and the high instantaneous strength of resin fibreglass.

GRC's absence of steel reinforcement makes it ideal for use under normally corrosive conditions, and has a resistance to chemical attack far greater than traditional concrete.
