Following the format of the established Overland and Three Capes Tracks, the 'Next Iconic Walk' will be a three-day/two-night hut-based bushwalk connecting the 28 kilometres between Lake Plimsoll in the north with Lake Margaret Power Station in the south.

Leading the design, Jaws Architects have proposed concept plans for the two hut sites that were signed off by the Steering Committee in October last year. Their portfolio includes the prefabricated and site-assembled Three Capes Track cabins that were completed in 2015.

’‹Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) will host a series of public information sessions for the Next Iconic Walk project in August and September 2024. Following these information sessions, detailed design and planning will commence and draft plans will be released for public consultation. Subject to approvals, it is anticipated that construction will begin in 2025/26 and the walk will open in 2029.
